Kinetic Typography Project
Kinetic typography on Imogen Heap's Headlock for GRD 4400. Most of the camera works were done over night right before the due date in lab 468 with a bunch of other people who weren't finished with the project like me--uuuh, let's not let THAT happen again.. haha. Enjoy!

Revised Posters
So after receiving Stan's e-mail, I was a bit disappointed with my grades, so I went ahead and changed some stuff up:
1. Color combination - unsaturated them and added a third color, yellow. Simplified the wings for some of the birds because they looked too complex than others.
2. Day --> night sky. Added another layer of cloud behind the brightest one for more depth, drew in the constellation because the space looked a little empty, and changed the gradation in the sky from purplish red to blue in order to connect the colors more with the typeface. Also, took away the excess type decoration and bolded only the type name.
3. Changed the foot to a more unsaturated green and lowered the opacity, so that the type will pop out more compared to it.
I actually had 2 more versions of these with different color combinations, but I liked this one the most.
ALSO, I changed my blog design :)
I'm going to be using this blog background pattern for my Takara Plum bottle design as well (though that should've been the other way around since I designed it for the bottle, not my blog). The header image is to be swapped with something else later if I have time. I dunno.

Takara Umeshu Redesign
LOL so I totally failed at the product choices because I didn't see Stan's post until after I bought them :/ At least the Takara Umeshu hadn't been done yet.

Some ideas I had in mind for my sake bottle product redesign:
Japanese calligraphy

For the label that'll be wrapping around the bottle. I haven't done Japanese calligraphy since.. what, elementary school? slfdkajfhjdflandIwasneverreallygoodatitinthefirstplacesldkfjaflk at least I have all the supplies already.
Kinchaku (drawstring bag)

Instead of a box, I'll most likely be using this.. er, making this. Too bad I don't have a sewing machine...so I'm gonna be stabbing myself with a needle for the next few weeks. If this doesn't work out, I'll be using a wooden box that'll have some kind of laser printing on the front.
Ume patterns

Some examples of ume patterns for the kinchaku bag.

Spoonflower
What I'll be using to get my ume patterns printed from. Glad that Paige showed me this website a while ago!
Washi
I don't really know where I'm going to get a printable washi from yet, but if I can, I'd like to use this kind of paper for my label. If not, just.. uh, the normal kind of paper, I guess.

WIP: Illustrative Alphabets + Animation
I hate how I lack in presentation skills, especially when I have to do it when I'm least expecting it (like on Thursday) because my mind goes blank, and I don't really know what to say about my work when I actually spend A LOT of time on the thinking process.
i.e.
Q: How did you choose your works for the strongest pieces?
A: I just went through my entire portfolio and chose the ones that I thought were the strongest.
....That doesn't answer the question. Am I retarded? I want to shoot myself for all the other stupid responses I made during that presentation, but this one, especially. I wanted to show variety in my work, but also wanted to emphasize in my illustrational skills because I feel like that's my strongest point and what got me into the program (?), so I decided to choose 3 pieces that demonstrated my illustrational side, 1 logo, and 1 that I liked that wasn't illustrational. THAT was what I wanted to say, but failed to do so, clearly.
Plus, I just suck at explaining in general and hate talking in front a group of people, so that just makes it even worse :I Blah, I hope I can improve this lack of self-confidence as well before I graduate. Why the hell am I so pessimistic?
ANYWAYS
some WIPs of all the projects that's been assigned so far:

Either 2 colors (complete?)

or 3 colors (incomplete)

Color schemes I had in my head. I'm gonna go with the middle one although I do like the right one too.

4310: MAGIC! THE MOUSE TOY'S WHISKERS DISAPPEAR AND APPEAR RANDOMLY. Animation sample (hence the GIF format). I have more drawn out, but this is the only part that I have animated right now. Cat = <3

4100: Nameplate design for my magazine FiberARTS.. I feel like logo/nameplate designs are my weakest point ever D: Ugh...

Illustrative Alphabets - Rough Draft

Still have a lot to work on this, but here's all the letters. I'll be vectorizing/coloring these later.
***Note to self:
> Watch out on weight
> Fix awkward poses
> Add secondary objects in for some of them (worms/twigs/etc)
> Simplify/abstract the form more
Style I'm going for:
Charley Harper
Naive: Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design
Typographic Portrait

Hooray, I'm done. And I like it :D
Typeface used: Hiragino Kaku Gothic StdN

4020 Timeline and Self Portrait
EDIT @ 9:06 AM August 28
So here's my final product of my timeline/self portrait projects:
I used to draw a lot of fanarts, so all I could find were those pictures.. I wonder if I'm allowed to put them on here.
Actually, I'm not done with my self portrait yet. I still need to ink the picture by hand, but that won't take too long (hopefully). You get the basic idea with the layout and whatnot... Everything else is pretty final, I think.
----
What I've been working on for the past several hours since I woke up and before I went to sleep last night. I'm obviously not done yet, but I'm getting there.
I think I'm almost actually done with this one? I still need to place a picture in for the first and the last pollaroids and remove the Roseart logo at the top right corner. I might photoshop some sticky notes/keychains/whatnot later, but if it starts to look too cluttered, I won't. Overall placement of the pollaroid looks kind of awkward and fake, so I'm gonna tweak that a bit later too.
This is just a sketch, nothing final. Everything is going to be inked by hand, including the collage of the art supplies (meaning no photographs). I might or might not be coloring it.. it depends on how much time I have left, I guess. ...But then again, I actually kinda like the photo collage idea too, so I dunno how this is going to turn out yet lol.
Oh, and I'm not done with the photo collage either, so I still gotta play with the placement of the illustration too.
